Internships

Project Augustine is pleased to announce we will be offering several internship positions in Spring and Summer 2021. Details for each internship can be found below.

Non-Profit Development & Leadership

This is a part-time, 15-hour per week, unpaid telecommuting internship. The internship is for 12 weeks and will give an insight into the key skills required to lead and develop a nonprofit organization. Development & Leadership interns will work closely alongside the Project Augustine leadership team. Areas of focus include:

 

Advocacy Leadership Development

Meet with aldermen, business owners, and other community members;  represent Project Augustine at various business, political, and community events; mobilize individuals to contact their community leaders in support of key legislation.

 

Fundraising

Learn how to fundraise; create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets.

 

Recruitment

Update volunteer, internship, and job postings; inform individuals, groups, and classes of openings and opportunities; assist Volunteer Coordinator in volunteer outreach and retention activities; introduction to recruitment platforms; observe interviews.

 

Marketing and Promotion

Pitch story ideas to print, broadcast, and digital media; utilize social media and develop strategies for web-based messaging; guerrilla marketing campaigns; create a personal marketing campaign and meet targets.

 

Qualifications:

Self-starter who can produce great results with limited supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to lead meetings and give speeches. Desire to serve in a leadership position in the non-profit sector. Minimum 3 years of undergraduate education strongly preferred, but candidates with equivalent work experience will be considered. Applicants must pass a background check.

Fundraising & Grant Writing

This is a part-time, 15-hour per week, unpaid telecommuting internship. The internship is for 12 weeks and will give an insight into the key skills required to fundraise for a nonprofit organization. Fundraising & Grant Writing interns will work closely alongside the Project Augustine leadership team and fundraising committee. Areas of focus include:

 

Monetary Donations

Network with potential donors to solicit one-time and recurring monetary donations; previous donor outreach and retention activities.

 

In-Kind Donations

Network with potential donors to solicit in-kind donations of materials and supplies; previous donor outreach and retention activities.

 

Grant Writing

Learn about the grant writing process; maintain grant calendar; manage the grant writing process for 1-3 grant applications for the 2021 fiscal year.

 

Campaigns and Promotion

Pitch fundraising campaigns to print, broadcast, and digital media; utilize social media and develop strategies for web-based fundraising; create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets.

 

Qualifications:

Self-starter who can produce great results with limited supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to lead meetings and give speeches. Desire to serve in a fiduciary role in the non-profit sector. Background in finance, fundraising, and/or political campaigning preferred. Applicants must pass a background check.

Historic Preservation

This is a part-time, 15-hour per week, unpaid telecommuting internship. The internship is for 12 weeks and will give an insight into the historic preservation aspect of Project Augustine. Historic Preservation interns will work closely alongside the Project Augustine leadership team. Areas of focus include:

 

Research

Conduct research regarding historic preservation guidelines, strategies, and funding avenues (including historic tax credits) and prepare presentations and memos to present findings.

 

Planning

Learn how to develop a preservation plan; create a preservation plan for at least one area of concern for the former St. Augustine Catholic Church.

 

Marketing and Promotion

Pitch preservation plans to print, broadcast, and digital media; utilize social media and develop strategies for web-based messaging.

 

Qualifications:

Self-starter who can produce great results with limited supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to lead meetings and give speeches. Desire to serve in the historic preservation sector. Minimum 3 years of undergraduate education with a background in historic preservation, architecture, or engineering strongly preferred. Applicants must pass a background check.

Bookkeeping & Accounting

This is a part-time, 10-hour per week, unpaid telecommuting internship. The internship is for 12 weeks and will give an insight into the key skills required of bookkeepers and accountants in the nonprofit sector. Bookkeeping & Accounting interns will work closely alongside the Project Augustine leadership team, bookkeeper., and Fundraising & Grant Writing intern(s). Areas of focus include:

 

Bookkeeping

Assist in maintaining general ledger; process incoming donations; produce donor receipts for monetary and in-kind donations.

 

Planning

Observe and participate in board and committee meetings regarding organizational finances; assist in budgeting and financial planning activities; coordinate with fundraising committee and Fundraising & Grant Writing intern(s) in campaign budget development.

 

Qualifications:

Self-starter who can produce great results with limited supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to confidently participate in meetings and presentations. Desire to serve in the nonprofit sector. in a fiduciary capacity. Some coursework in accounting, business management, and/or mathematics (algebra or higher) is beneficial, but not required. Applicants must pass a background check.

Administration

This is a part-time, 10-hour per week, unpaid telecommuting internship. The internship is for 12 weeks and will give an insight into the key skills required of administrative staff in the nonprofit sector. Administration interns will work alongside the Project Augustine leadership team, volunteer coordinator, Non-Profit Development & Leadership intern(s), Fundraising & Grant Writing intern(s), Historic Preservation intern(s), and Bookkeeping & Accounting intern(s). Areas of focus include:

 

General Administration

Assist in day-to-day administrative tasks including phone reception, email correspondence, social media posts, and website updates.

 

Executive Assistance

Observe and participate in board and committee meetings; assist in preparation of meeting minutes; prepare correspondence via dictation; prepare presentation outlines; maintain executive calendars.

 

Qualifications:

Self-starter who can produce great results with attention to detail and limited supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to confidently participate in meetings and presentations. Desire to learn more about working in the nonprofit sector. Applicants must pass a background check.
